What Uganda Taught Me About Parenting
Parenting in Uganda has reminded me that raising children was never meant to be a solo journey.
Here, children are surrounded by community. Neighbors, relatives, and friends look out for one another’s children — offering a helping hand, sharing meals, and stepping in when needed.
There is a beautiful understanding that children belong not only to their parents, but to the wider community that loves and supports them.
Motherhood can feel isolating in so many places, but here I have found the opposite.
Motherhood creates connection. It draws people together.
There is truth in the saying, “It takes a village to raise a child.”
In Uganda, I have experienced what that village can look like.
There is a lighter feeling that comes with knowing you do not have to carry every moment alone.
There are always people willing to help carry the load, celebrate your children, and remind you that you are surrounded by others on the journey.

This Mama’s heart is so proud of you! You are such a blessing to our family, a wonderful Mom to my beautiful grandchildren ( who I miss like crazy), a supportive wife to our great son (in law) and a really great writer. As you know, moving your family to Uganda was not easy. It was such a tough thing for Dad and I to adjust to the thought of the huge distance between us but….we know that it was the right thing for your family. We are very proud of David for working so hard to make your business thrive , proud of the kids for adjusting to living in Uganda with all its changes and so very proud of your determination to make your lives “extraordinary” and adventurous! Love you all so much!
