Northern Uganda

Northern Uganda is one of those regions that really stays with you. It feels open, expansive, and full of depth—both in the landscapes and in the people who call it home.
From the power and beauty of Murchison Falls National Park to the amazing energy of towns like Gulu, this part of Uganda has a very different rhythm from the rest of the country. It’s quieter in some ways, more spacious, and honestly, very grounding.
This page brings together the places we’ve explored in northern Uganda, along with guides and experiences to help you plan your own trip.
Where to Explore in Northern Uganda
Murchison Falls National Park – Uganda’s largest national park and home to the world’s strongest waterfall, plus unforgettable safari drives

Our Trip to Murchison Falls National Park
This trip had a bit of everything—getting slightly lost on the way in, a muddy detour we didn’t plan for, incredible safari drives, and that unforgettable moment standing in front of Murchison Falls itself. It’s one of those places that keeps surprising you in the best way.

Guide to Gulu (Coming Soon)
We’re working on a guide to Gulu—what it’s like, what to do there, and why it’s such an interesting and fast-evolving stop in northern Uganda right now. It’s a place where history, culture, and modern life sit side by side in a really interesting way.

Our Experience at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary (Coming Soon)
A conservation success story in Uganda and one of the best places to see rhinos up close in a natural setting. It’s also an important stop for anyone hoping to see the full “Big Five” experience in Uganda.

Exploring Kidepo National Park (Coming Soon)
Far, peaceful, and incredibly beautiful—Kidepo is one of those places that feels like a true adventure just getting there. It’s remote in the best sense of the word, with wide open landscapes and a sense of stillness that’s hard to find anywhere else.
Planning a Trip to Northern Uganda
Northern Uganda is definitely a region where distances are bigger and travel takes a bit more time—but that’s also part of what makes it feel so special.
A few things we’ve learned:
- It works well to start from Kampala and head north toward Murchison Falls or Gulu
- Try to combine safari time with cultural stops if you can—it gives a fuller picture of the region
- Don’t rush it. The drives are long, but the landscapes along the way are part of the experience
- If you’re heading all the way to Kidepo, give it the time it deserves – it’s worth it
Closing
Northern Uganda is one of those places that feels both powerful and peaceful at the same time. Between the wildlife, the wide open landscapes, and the quieter moments in between, it’s the kind of region that gently pulls you out of “busy travel mode” and into something slower and more present.
It’s not just a list of places to check off the travel list—it’s a region that invites you to experience it properly and to let a few unexpected moments shape the journey along the way..
